Here’s the Story:
Deep roughs and rolling surfaces define La Tourette, an elegant 6,700-yard, par-72 public course in the geographic center of Staten Island. Oh yea, there's a driving range.( And it's cheap!) Set in a heavily wooded area, La Tourette has three par-threes and three par-fives. There are no 600-yard giants, but you'll get plenty of opportunities to use your driver on the par-fours--there are twelve and each is around 400 yards. The undulating greens are dramatic and unpredictable.

Wide fairways make the course seem safe, but flat landing spots are few and far between. Be prepared to hit from awkward positions. The shorter holes are narrower, so you won't always have a wide margin of error. Elevation is also a factor. You'll hit from elevated tee boxes and many of the fairways are steep and subtly terraced. The tree lines are tight and dense, so the holes often feel walled off and private. You won't find many bunkers or water hazards, but we have a knack for finding those. They're around.

Let's talk amenities. There's no alcohol before noon, but they have the standard beers and booze. The cart does not take credit cards. The food is solid. They have a nice menu of sandwiches--including breakfast sandwiches. The hot dogs aren't too bad, either. Beefy. Frankly, they’re the best in the city (public golf course division).
