Randall's Island Golf Center - Randall's Island, Manhattan

It’s on the northwestern side of Randall’s Island near Icahn Stadium (track and field). If you decide to drive there’s plenty of parking. Public transit: Take the 4/5/6 to the 125th Street & Lexington Avenue then board the M35 bus. You can also take the walkway of the RFK/Triborough Bridge from Astoria or Manhattan to Randall’s Island. It’s a solid 20+ minute walk, and if you are afraid of heights, we do not recommend it.

Clubs. Rentals are free (they have a barrel of old irons and woods in the clubhouse, kindly return them when you’re done).

Here's the Story:
The Randall’s Island Golf Center is hidden on the northwest side of Randall’s Island next to Icahn Stadium. There is a two-tiered driving range with yard markers up to 250 yards. The range looks out onto the Manhattan skyline with a great view of the RFK/Triborough Bridge. They do offer lessons. (You may want to check Groupon for discount rates on lessons; we got a nice discount on a short game clinic.) They frequently host golf expos and equipment demos, so if you’re lucky you can try out the clubs you’ll be buying used on eBay in five years. Besides the range, they have a chipping and putting green to hone your short game.

If you require more fun, they have a miniature golf course and batting cages to keep the kids entertained while you try to fix your slice. There is a beer garden with plenty of food and booze (and sometimes a cover band) to keep adults sane after they’ve thoroughly failed to address the bad habits causing that slice. They also have a pro shop with all of the golf essentials if you want to throw money at the problem.

This might be the best kept secret in New York for avid golfers. If you live in the city and have a car, this is the ideal spot to practice your swing on the range. If you rely on public transportation, this might not be the best option as the bus is the only way to get there.  It’s $14 for a large bucket of balls which is more affordable than Chelsea Piers. This place is open 7 days a week from 10 am-11pm.  Take your kids, take a date, this place is for everyone. Just make sure you build in enough time to get there.
